Decarbonizing iron: From Forest to Steel

The forest has always been at the heart of Quebec’s economic and social development. It will continue to play a key role as we embark on a profound transformation of our economy against the backdrop of the energy transition. Although many industries aim for electrification, it is challenging to implement in some cases. This is the case for iron production, another flagship of Quebec’s economy. The forest could remove some of the barriers to this industry’s transition by providing a new source of supplemental energy: renewable biofuel.
