Iron (Fe) – a chemical element with atomic number 26, iron is the most common metal and ferromagnetic material used in everyday life, mainly in the form of alloys. Pure iron is a ductile transition metal. Adding small amounts of other metals, such as chromium, nickel, molybdenum and vanadium, alters its mechanical properties. When combined with carbon and other additives, it forms different types of steel.
