Entrevue Opération minière
2021 — volume 2, numéro 2
A world leader in steel and one of the five largest producers of iron ore products internationally, ArcelorMittal is well established in Quebec, particularly in the Montreal and North Shore (Côte-Nord) regions. While many facilities around the globe allow this world leader to vertically integrate its production of metal products, from ore to finished products, two subsidiaries in Quebec are in charge of mining and transporting iron ore. ArcelorMittal Mining Canada (AMMC) produces approximately 25 million tonnes (Mt) of iron ore concentrate each year from the Mont-Wright and Fire Lake deposits near Fermont in the Labrador Trough. The company also has a plant in Port-Cartier to produce iron oxide pellets.
