Social Acceptability: From Concept to Industry Issue

As noted by Ernst & Young in the headline for their paper detailing the ten most important risk factors for the mining and metals sector in 2019-2020: “Licence to operate overtakes digital effectiveness as top risk in mining and metals sector.”

In Quebec and elsewhere, licence to operate or social acceptability has become an unavoidable issue for projects. Does this mean it has become an obstacle to resource development? Not necessarily, especially when promoters take it into account when preparing and implementing their projects.
